The Medical Journey Continues…

It’s been a week of challenges, resilience, and deep gratitude — and we wanted to share an update with our amazing community of friends and family.

Earlier in the week, Brinley was admitted to the hospital for two nights after what appeared to be a seizure. It was a scary moment for us, especially with the timing — her hospital stay overlapped with my first five days of chemotherapy. Thankfully, we were just a short walk apart and able to check in on each other throughout. After evaluations from her neurologist and an esophagram, we learned her episode was not a seizure, but related to reflux — something called Sandifer Syndrome. Her imaging showed no structural issues, which was a huge relief as malformations are common with kids with Sox2 Syndrome.

Meanwhile, I’ve completed my first week of chemo. The treatment is intense, but I’m in good spirits and incredibly thankful for the care team at Kaiser. They’ve been compassionate, thorough, and supportive every step of the way. Having them on our side has made all the difference.

I also want to express how grateful I am for the people holding us up during this time. My mom has been by my side since the day I was diagnosed — steady, strong, and full of love. And Courtney, our incredible nanny, has gone above and beyond for Brinley — taking her to hearing aid appointments and caring for her with such heart when Lauren has been at the chemo clinic with me.

One quick housekeeping note: we’re migrating our updates from CaringBridge to our own website: www.thebakerfamilyjourney.com. This new site gives us more flexibility and feels more personal. We’ll do our best to subscribe you to future updates automatically, so there’s nothing you need to do. It also allows for easier messaging and a more connected space to share our story.

It’s been a full week. But as always, we’re taking it one day at a time, leaning on each other, and feeling deeply supported by this beautiful community. Thank you for your love, your meals, your messages, and your prayers. We are so grateful.

With love,

Keith, Lauren & Brinley
